One of the main building materials of the Sarajevo Bridge in Barcelona is Corten iron coming from Mafesa. Due to its high copper, chrome and nickel content, Corten or weathering steel takes on a special reddish-orangey hue that may vary depending on its environment. Its oxidation is merely superficial, creating a protective oxide coating which is impermeable to water and environmental corrosion. The steel requires no further painting nor galvanic protection.
